Be the scuba diver everyone wants to follow because you know where you are and where you’re going. The PADI Underwater Navigator course fine-tunes your observation skills and teaches you to more accurately use your compass underwater. If you like challenges with big rewards, take this course and have fun finding your way.

If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course.

You will learn the tools of the trade, including navigation using natural clues and by following compass headings. During three scuba dives, you’ll practice:

  • Planning and organizing underwater diving navigation
  • Problems and hazards of underwater navigation
  • Techniques in estimating distances underwater
  • Underwater navigation patterns
  • Natural navigation
  • Underwater compass navigation
  • Marking or relocating submerged object or position from the surface
  • Dive site relocation techniques
  • Estimating distances
  • Following irregular paths with an underwater navigation system (Nav-Finder)

Because of your enhanced diving navigation skills, you will have more confidence when diving.  You can follow interesting sea creatures and explore more sights without feeling anxious that you will get lost on your way back.  Also you will gain more independence in diving since you already know how to navigate underwater.  You do not have to depend on co-divers to lead you the way.  Finally the course will make diving more relaxed, more fun. And definitely more exciting as you gain more confidence and independence underwater.

Taking the PADI underwater navigator course may also get you a college credit.  The first dive during this course may credit as an Adventure Dive for your Advanced Open Water Diver certification, as well as your Master Scuba Diver Certification and your PADI Divemaster Course.
